Gujarat Police conducted searches at journalist Ravi Nair’s residences in Kerala and Delhi in connection with an FIR related to a social media post about a Washington Post investigation that he co-authored. During the searches, police seized two phones belonging to Nair. Devices belonging to his son and a colleague were also taken, although neither of them has been named as an accused in the case.
The FIR is linked to a post concerning a 2025 Washington Post report that alleged Indian government officials had proposed directing around $3.9 billion in investments by the Life Insurance Corporation of India toward companies associated with the Adani Group. The searches took place shortly after the Gujarat High Court declined to quash the FIR. The developments have renewed concerns among press freedom advocates over legal scrutiny faced by journalists reporting on matters involving powerful interests.
