

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for another significant mission, with the GSLV-F17 scheduled to launch the EOS-05 Earth-observation satellite from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2:55 am on September 4. The mission is the 19th flight of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, and the countdown is underway. EOS-05 will initially be placed in a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit before reaching its operational orbit. The mission is particularly significant as EOS-05 is India’s first imaging satellite designed to operate from a geosynchronous orbit.
EOS-05 is expected to provide repeated and detailed observations of the Indian region from an altitude of nearly 36,000 km. Its capabilities will support weather monitoring, disaster management, environmental observation and other applications requiring frequent imaging. The satellite is also expected to strengthen India’s strategic and security-related observation capabilities, including monitoring of sensitive regions. With the mission combining advanced Earth-imaging technology and geosynchronous operations, the launch is being viewed as an important step in strengthening India’s space-based observation infrastructure.
