Reports have emerged alleging that Israel has constructed secret military bases in Iraq’s western desert region near Karbala, reportedly for operations targeting Iran. Earlier claims suggested only one covert base existed, but Iraqi authorities now state that there are two such facilities. According to the Iraqi military, one of these bases was used during Israel’s 12-day military operations against Iran in 2025. The revelation came after an Iraqi soldier and a civilian were recently killed while guarding one of the suspected sites.
Iraqi officials further stated that one of the bases was built in 2024 and that the United States was aware of its existence. However, it remains unclear whether Israeli forces are currently stationed there. These bases are believed to have been used to reduce flight time for operations against Iran and to provide logistical and medical support to military forces. Iraq has reportedly lodged a complaint with the United Nations Security Council over the issue, while Israel has not issued any official response so far.
