According to Vedic astrology, different planetary positions in a birth chart are believed to create various doshas and yogas. Manglik Dosha, also known as Mangal Dosha, is traditionally associated with the position of Mars in the horoscope. Astrology practitioners consider Mars a significator of energy, courage, anger and aggression. It is believed that Manglik Dosha may occur when Mars is placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house.
Some astrologers believe that Manglik Dosha may influence marriage, married life and family relationships. It is traditionally associated with issues such as increased anger, differences between spouses, delays in marriage and family disagreements. However, the effects are not considered to be the same in every horoscope. Other planetary positions, aspects, planetary periods and the Navamsa chart are also taken into account while assessing the horoscope.
Those who follow astrological traditions may observe certain remedies for Manglik Dosha. These include worshipping Lord Hanuman on Tuesdays, offering jaggery and chickpeas or boondi, and reciting the Hanuman Chalisa on Tuesdays and Saturdays while lighting a ghee lamp. Other traditional practices include worshipping a banana tree on Thursdays, donating barley, performing a havan on a full-moon day, offering a coconut wrapped in red cloth at a Hanuman temple, offering barley to Lord Vishnu, serving and feeding cows, and feeding monkeys on Tuesdays.
