Tensions have escalated again in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran launched missile attacks on two UAE-linked oil tankers, resulting in the death of an Indian sailor and injuries to several others. India strongly protested the incident by summoning an Iranian diplomat in New Delhi and demanded an immediate halt to attacks on commercial vessels. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern over rising tensions in West Asia and urged all parties to resolve issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
According to defence sources, the vessels MT Mombasa and MT Al Bahia were attacked while passing through Omani waters, carrying 46 crew members, including 30 Indians. Several sailors sustained injuries, some critically. Iran justified the attacks, alleging illegal navigation activities by the ships. Meanwhile, the Indian government confirmed that seven Indian-flagged vessels with 148 crew members are currently stranded west of Hormuz due to the ongoing tensions.
