Reports of iPhones and luxury perfumes washing ashore near Iran’s coast along the Strait of Hormuz have attracted widespread attention on social media. Viral clips purportedly show people rushing to collect the items, while some fishermen are seen attempting to bring a container believed to hold iPhones closer to shore using small boats. Reports suggest that some of the goods reached the Iranian coast on Saturday, although the exact location has not been clearly established.
The items are reportedly linked to the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel GFS Pride, which is said to have sunk in the Strait of Hormuz after striking a sea mine. According to the information provided, the ship was travelling from Dubai with around 2,500 containers carrying various goods, including iPhones and luxury perfume bottles. Following the incident, some containers reportedly became scattered in the sea, allowing their contents to float on the water. However, international media fact-check reports have cautioned that some videos circulating online about the incident may have been generated using artificial intelligence. The authenticity of individual clips and the precise circumstances surrounding the goods washing ashore therefore require verification.
