Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė were forced to take shelter in a bunker for over an hour after authorities issued an alert regarding an unidentified drone operating near the country’s border. Following the security warning, all major activities in the capital came to a standstill as precautionary measures were implemented.
Officials from Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre stated that the purpose of the drone, which was detected moving near Belarus, remains unclear. The country shares borders with Belarus to the east and Russia’s Kaliningrad region to the west. NATO air forces were put on alert immediately after the drone activity was detected, although Lithuanian air force sources confirmed that no drone entered their airspace.
