Insulting the Speaker Is Unforgivable, Says CM Revanth Reddy

The Telangana Assembly witnessed a heated debate over allegedly inappropriate remarks made by BRS MLC Tatha Madhu against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy condemned the remarks, saying they were not only an insult to the Speaker’s position but also to the entire Assembly and the people of Telangana. He described the incident as a “dark day” for the state. Minister Seethakka expressed anguish over the alleged remarks against the Speaker’s mother. The Speaker became emotional and broke down during the proceedings. Congress MLAs, along with members of the BJP, AIMIM and CPI, strongly condemned Madhu’s remarks and demanded action against him. Dalit MLAs and MLCs also submitted representations to the Speaker and the Legislative Council Chairman.

During a special discussion in the Assembly, Ministers Sridhar Babu, Laxman Kumar, Ponnam Prabhakar, Jupally Krishna Rao and Seethakka demanded cancellation of Tatha Madhu’s MLC membership and sought action under the SC/ST laws. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy demanded that BRS chief KCR apologise for the remarks and ensure that Madhu resigns. He said the dignity of the Speaker’s office and legislative traditions must be protected and that such remarks should be condemned beyond political differences. Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar later said the comments had deeply hurt him and stated that the Assembly would pass a resolution on the issue and forward it to the Legislative Council.
