Indian Railways has taken a significant step towards strengthening passenger safety by introducing electric mobility trikes for Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at Chennai's Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station. The single-rider electric trikes enable officers to patrol the station premises more efficiently and respond swiftly to emergencies, making Chennai the first railway station in India to adopt this initiative.
The project was initially launched on a pilot basis in May and received a positive response. Following its success, a total of 12 electric trikes have now been deployed for regular patrol duties. The new vehicles allow RPF personnel to cover larger areas in less time, improve surveillance across the station, and provide faster assistance to passengers during emergencies.
