An Indian-run pharmaceutical plant in Ukraine’s Sumy region was largely destroyed in a Russian drone attack, killing one person and injuring several others. Ukrainian officials said the main structure of the Kusum Group facility suffered extensive damage, while the number of casualties could change as rescue and assessment operations continue. The loss to the plant is estimated at around Rs 400 crore.
The facility is operated by India’s Kusum Group and is headed by Indian national Rajeev Gupta. The company established its Sumy plant in 2009 and manufactures generic medicines for several markets. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, saying the facility was not a military installation but was involved in producing essential medicines.
