Thousands of Indian families who moved to the United States in pursuit of the American dream are reportedly facing a growing financial crisis. Mass layoffs in the IT sector, stricter H-1B visa regulations and reported rejections of I-140 petitions are adding to the uncertainty among Indian professionals. Many who have lost their jobs are struggling to pay rent and meet daily expenses. Rising housing loan costs, inflation and difficulties selling properties have further increased the financial burden. Some experienced IT professionals are now looking for jobs in Indian cities such as Hyderabad, even at significantly lower salaries than they previously earned in the US.
The situation is also difficult for Indian students, particularly Telugu students, who have spent thousands of dollars on education but are struggling to secure campus placements. Some are reportedly taking up jobs at petrol stations, supermarkets and delivery services to manage their living expenses and repay education loans. Many Indians living in the US say the current situation reminds them of the 2008 global financial crisis. As some families consider returning to India with limited savings, concerns are growing among those who dream of moving to the US for education and employment.
