An Indian couple who has been living in the United States for several years has shared a candid message with young Indians considering moving abroad. Suhas and Priyanka said the circumstances that influenced their decision to move to the US have changed significantly, with India now offering many of the opportunities that once attracted them overseas.
Suhas recalled that when they moved abroad, finding a good job and building a comfortable life in India appeared more difficult, while the US seemed to offer better prospects. However, he believes the situation has changed considerably, with growing investments, employment opportunities and improved professional prospects in India.
The couple also highlighted the personal challenges that are often overlooked when people focus only on salaries. Suhas said leaving family and friends behind, creating a new social circle and trying to feel accepted in another country can carry a significant emotional cost. He admitted that he still does not feel completely accepted in the US and said that if he had to make the decision today, he would prefer to live in India.
Immigration uncertainty was another major concern raised by Suhas. He pointed to long waits for green cards, dependence on employers, uncertainty surrounding spouses and children, and the years many immigrants spend waiting for permanent stability.
The couple’s comments have sparked a debate online. While some users agreed that India’s growing economy is creating better opportunities and that moving abroad may not always be necessary, others argued that studying or working overseas can still provide valuable exposure, experience and career opportunities.
