The long-awaited India-US trade agreement is reportedly nearing its final stage, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressing optimism about an early conclusion. During his official visit to India, Rubio said the two countries were very close to reaching an agreement, with only a few issues remaining to be resolved. He indicated that the deal was close to completion, although it had not yet been formally signed.
Rubio made the remarks during discussions in Mumbai with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Their meeting focused on energy security, defence cooperation and the broader strategic partnership between the two countries. Rubio acknowledged that the US State Department does not usually lead trade negotiations but said it was actively involved in the current discussions. His comments come amid wider developments in US energy and trade policy, including decisions concerning sanctions on Russia and energy imports. However, the final terms and signing date of the India-US trade agreement have not yet been confirmed.
