The Indian Army is preparing specialized “Baj Battalions” to operate drones and unmanned aerial systems as part of future warfare readiness. Lessons from recent operations such as Operation Sindoor have highlighted the critical role of drones in modern combat scenarios.
The new units will focus on surveillance, precision strikes, and deep reconnaissance inside enemy territory. Experts, including retired Major General AK Sivach, noted that systems like MQ-9B drones will be centrally analyzed for strategic decision-making, while India also needs counter-drone systems like Bharavastra to secure its airspace.
