India has strongly condemned the recent attack on UAE commercial tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, in which an Indian sailor lost his life. Describing the targeting of commercial shipping as a grave violation of international law, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern over the incident and called for the immediate restoration of safe, free and uninterrupted navigation through international waterways.
In response to the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned senior Iranian diplomats, including Iran's Deputy Chief of Mission, to South Block in New Delhi and lodged a strong diplomatic protest. India sought accountability over the attack and reiterated that violence against civilian shipping threatens regional stability and global maritime security.
