India has reacted to an announcement by the US Department of Labour and raised objections to the terminology used by US Vice President JD Vance regarding H-1B visa holders. Describing the term “indentured labour” as deeply offensive, India said it carries painful historical and colonial connotations that should not be used to characterise visa holders.

India also stated that the measures announced by the United States do not advance the shared ambitions of the two countries. It described such characterisations as unwarranted and stressed the importance of respectful engagement between the two nations. The response highlights India's concerns over the language used to describe H-1B visa holders and the potential implications for bilateral cooperation.
