Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman has alleged that the INDIA bloc is targeting the constitutionally established Election Commission and the judiciary because it has failed to secure public support in elections. Speaking to the media at the BJP state office on Monday, he criticised the opposition alliance's stance on the electoral process. Laxman said Congress leaders had previously called for the removal of irregularities from electoral rolls across the country. He described the opposition's protests against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, citing concerns over democracy, as an example of opportunistic politics.
Laxman referred to earlier statements by opposition leaders regarding alleged bogus voters in different states. He said Kamal Nath had claimed that Madhya Pradesh had 6 million bogus votes, while Shaktisinh Gohil had alleged that Gujarat had 4 million fraudulent votes. He also cited previous representations by Arvind Kejriwal to the Election Commission seeking the removal of 1.1 million alleged bogus votes in Delhi. Laxman argued that opposing the SIR process after previously demanding electoral roll revisions reflected an inconsistent political position. These allegations and figures were presented by Laxman during the media interaction.
