The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee organised a ‘Chalo Lok Bhavan’ rally from the Indira Gandhi statue at Necklace Road to Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad as part of the INDIA bloc’s ‘Save Democracy’ campaign. The protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Jupally Krishna Rao, Mohammed Azharuddin and Vakati Srihari, along with other Congress and INDIA bloc leaders, participated in the rally.
Following his detention, Mahesh Kumar Goud alleged that large-scale voter deletions were taking place across the country and accused the Election Commission of undermining democracy. He alleged that attempts were being made to delete voters in Telangana and other states through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Goud demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and said the Congress would continue its protest until the demand was met. These are allegations made by the Congress and have not been independently established.
