

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is working towards hosting the 2036 Olympic Games as part of its ambition to strengthen the country’s position in international sports. Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya in Chennai on October 11, he also highlighted India’s preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. He said improved sports infrastructure, international-standard training and better opportunities could help young Indian athletes showcase their talent on the global stage. The government is also focused on providing facilities for young people who want to pursue sports as a career.
According to the information provided, India has submitted a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee regarding its interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Germany, Hungary, Qatar, South Korea, South Africa and Türkiye are also mentioned as potential contenders. During his Tamil Nadu visit, Modi reportedly joined Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to inaugurate metro rail services on the Porur–Poonamallee stretch of Chennai Metro Phase 2. The two leaders then travelled on the metro and interacted with passengers.
