The India Meteorological Department has forecast normal rainfall for Andhra Pradesh during the October-December period. The Northeast Monsoon is expected to arrive over southern India around the third week of October and is likely to remain within the normal range during the season. The forecast comes after a rainfall-deficient Southwest Monsoon across the country, with Andhra Pradesh also recording below-normal rainfall. The outlook is therefore being closely watched by farmers and water-resource authorities.
Meanwhile, strong El Niño conditions are prevailing over the Pacific Ocean, with climate models indicating that the phenomenon could remain influential in the coming months. Neutral Indian Ocean Dipole conditions are also expected to continue. While rainfall across much of the country is projected to remain below normal during October, the Northeast Monsoon over southern India is expected to be normal. Authorities have been advised to closely monitor water availability, use water resources efficiently and prepare alternative agricultural plans wherever necessary.
