Allegations have surfaced that the government’s sand transport facility for Indiramma housing construction is being misused by illegal operators. Although police had earlier cracked down on illegal sand transportation in areas including Maripeda, Nellikudur, Narasimhulapeta and Chinnagudur mandals, illegal activity has reportedly resurfaced due to increased demand for construction.
Officials are expected to strictly verify permits for every tractor transporting sand from reach points to ensure it reaches only beneficiaries’ houses. However, there are allegations of weak field-level monitoring, with claims that some officials are collecting ₹500 to ₹1,000 per trip without proper verification, while also failing to act against unauthorized vehicles.
Locals report large sand stockpiles in areas such as Narasimhulapeta, Nellikudur, Maripeda, Chinnagudur, Kuravi, and Mahabubabad. Despite repeated complaints, no effective action has been taken to seize illegal dumps. Leaders also allege negligence in maintaining check dams in Chinnagudur and nearby areas, leading to irrigation problems and continued illegal sand mining.
