Amid growing tensions over CJP protests in Delhi, an advisory issued by IIT Roorkee to its students and faculty has triggered controversy. The institute advised students and employees not to express support for ongoing political movements through social media. It also stated that no one should participate in political discussions or activities without institutional approval or make statements that could affect the relationship between the institute and the government.
Following criticism over the advisory, IIT Roorkee clarified that it was only an internal guideline issued at the beginning of every academic year for students and faculty members. The institute stated that it was not a new order or policy and urged people not to misinterpret the communication.
