Tension prevailed in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district after beneficiaries of the Double Bedroom Housing Scheme occupied their allotted flats at Singannagudem crossroads on the outskirts of Bhuvanagiri town. Although beneficiaries were selected through a lottery nearly two years ago, the houses have not yet been handed over. Frustrated by the prolonged delay, several beneficiaries entered their allotted flats, cleaned them, and demanded immediate possession of the houses.
The protest received support from local BRS leaders, while police and revenue officials rushed to the spot to control the situation. Beneficiaries alleged that development works were progressing at a very slow pace and accused the contractor of negligence. Revenue Divisional Officer Mali Krishna Reddy assured them that the issue would be discussed with higher authorities and resolved at the earliest. The project has remained controversial for the past five to six years due to delays in infrastructure development, despite the construction of the housing units being completed long ago.
