The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) is carrying out restoration and development works at Kapra Lake at an estimated cost of ₹35 crore. Around 60% of the work has been completed. The project covers the lake’s 112.80-acre Full Tank Level (FTL) area, with farmers voluntarily contributing 70 acres of land to support the development. The initiative aims to improve the lake’s condition, enhance its water-holding capacity and strengthen the surrounding environment.
Recognised by the central government as a wetland, Kapra Lake serves as a habitat for more than 470 migratory bird species, according to the information provided. HYDRA is prioritising biodiversity conservation while undertaking desilting, deepening, walking track construction, fencing and improvements to the inlet and outlet systems. The project aims to restore the lake in an environmentally sustainable manner while developing the surrounding area into a more accessible and pleasant space for local residents.
