Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite the expansion of National Highway 65 (NH-65), a key route connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada and extending towards Machilipatnam. During a meeting in New Delhi with NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and Member (Projects) Vipnesh Sharma, the minister highlighted the growing traffic volume and frequent road accidents along the highway. He stressed the need to speed up the tendering process and begin construction without unnecessary delays to improve commuter safety.
The proposed project aims to upgrade the existing four-lane highway to six lanes, along with service roads on both sides and controlled access facilities. According to the information shared at the meeting, November 11, 2026, is the deadline for tender submissions, and the NHAI chairman has indicated that construction is expected to begin by January 2027. The expansion is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time and improve road safety. Komatireddy said the state government would continue coordinating with central agencies to ensure that the project progresses on schedule, strengthening transport connectivity and supporting commercial activity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
