Hyderabad Traffic Police have intensified their crackdown on fake and tampered vehicle registration plates, seizing 100 vehicles and registering 100 criminal cases as part of a special enforcement drive. According to the details provided, the seized vehicles include 88 two-wheelers and 12 cars. The operation targets motorists who allegedly use counterfeit number plates, alter registration numbers or obscure digits to evade traffic challans and avoid detection by surveillance cameras. Police are treating these violations seriously, as tampered registration plates can make vehicle identification difficult and potentially hinder criminal investigations. The special drive involves intensified checks and monitoring across the city to identify vehicles violating registration plate rules.
Traffic officials have warned motorists against using fake plates, changing registration numbers, or displaying unauthorised fonts, stickers and designs that make numbers difficult to read. Under applicable provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, vehicles must comply with prescribed registration plate requirements, including applicable High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) rules. Authorities have cautioned that offenders may face legal action and criminal proceedings, depending on the nature of the violation. The enforcement drive is expected to continue, and residents are encouraged to report suspected fake or tampered number plates to the police. Motorists should ensure that their vehicle registration plates are genuine, legible and compliant with the applicable rules.
