Hyderabad City Police rescued four Indian rollers, Telangana’s state bird, after receiving information that the birds had been trapped in iron cages during the Dussehra festivities. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said police teams conducted raids at multiple locations following credible information from citizens. Two birds were rescued near a temple close to Bapughat in Langar Houz and handed over to forest officials associated with KBR Park. Another bird was found in a cage hanging from a tree near Sri Chitragupta Swamy Temple in Chatrinaka, while a fourth was rescued from a cage near Balajinagar Temple in Mangalhat. All four birds were handed over to forest officials.
Sajjanar said trapping a helpless bird in the name of a festival was unacceptable and urged people not to support practices that deprive wildlife of freedom for financial gain. He appealed to the public to report incidents involving harm to wildlife immediately. People can contact the toll-free numbers 1800 425 5364 and 9803338666, or call 112, to alert the authorities. The police urged citizens to celebrate festivals responsibly and respect the protection of birds and other wildlife.
