Illegal midnight racing has become a growing concern on Hyderabad roads, which remain heavily crowded with vehicles throughout the day. In areas such as the IT corridor and Outer Ring Road, groups of youngsters are reportedly conducting dangerous races using luxury cars and sports bikes after midnight. Raidurgam, Knowledge City, Gachibowli, and the Financial District have become major hotspots for such activities during weekends.
The racers are reportedly modifying their vehicles with high-noise silencers, creating fear among residents with loud engine sounds and tyre screeches. These reckless acts are not only troubling the public but are also putting police personnel at risk. In a recent incident near T-Hub in Raidurgam, a constable suffered fractured fingers while trying to stop a speeding car. Police detained one person while others managed to escape.
In another case, a man was arrested for driving a Volkswagen Virtus car at over 200 kmph on the Outer Ring Road and uploading the video on Instagram. Police said Hyderabad roads are meant for public safety and not for illegal racing activities. Authorities have intensified drunk-driving checks, special drives, speed gun monitoring, and CCTV surveillance to curb midnight racing and ensure safe travel for citizens.
