Hyderabad Cab Driver Honoured with Australian Permanent Residency

Hyderabad-native cab driver Rehmat Pasha has been awarded Australian permanent residency in recognition of his exceptional courage during last December's deadly shooting at Sydney's Bondi Beach. As panic spread after gunmen opened fire on visitors, Pasha chose to stay back despite the danger and helped rescue nearly 20 injured victims by carrying them to waiting ambulances. Australian authorities praised his selfless actions, and the recognition will also allow his wife and three children to relocate to Australia.

Pasha has also been nominated for several bravery awards, while the cap he wore during the rescue operation is expected to be displayed at a museum in Sydney in honour of his heroism. He revealed that the traumatic incident affected him deeply, requiring medical treatment before he could recover. The shooting, allegedly carried out by Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram, who reportedly have roots in Hyderabad, claimed 15 lives and drew international attention.
