The conduct of NEET UG 2026 has once again drawn attention to the massive financial and logistical burden involved in organising one of India’s largest entrance examinations. Around 22.79 lakh students appeared for the exam held on the 3rd of this month across thousands of centres in India and abroad. The examination process involved extensive security arrangements, question paper preparation, transportation, biometric verification and deployment of thousands of staff members.
Concerns have intensified after discussions around paper leak allegations and the possibility of a re-examination. Experts say that if the exam has to be conducted again, the government and the National Testing Agency would face an additional burden of more than ₹100 crore, as students would not be charged another fee.
