Houthi Strikes Trigger Fresh Tensions in Saudi Arabia

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a series of missile and drone attacks on civilian and economic sites in southern Saudi Arabia, according to Saudi authorities. The strikes targeted areas including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, hitting energy facilities and other key infrastructure. Saudi officials said 73 civilians, including women and children, were injured, while fires broke out at several sites. Some energy operations were temporarily disrupted following the attacks.

Saudi Arabia condemned the attacks and said it would take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and protect critical facilities and workers. The Houthis claimed the strikes were carried out in response to Saudi military action in Yemen. The renewed escalation has also raised concerns in global energy markets, with Brent crude climbing close to $100 a barrel after news of the attacks.
