Hindi has been introduced as the fourth official language of the Assam Legislative Assembly, alongside Assamese, English, and Bodo. Assembly Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced the decision ahead of the Budget Session, allowing members to use Hindi for official proceedings for the first time.
The decision will take effect from the Budget Session beginning on July 6. Amid speculation over the status of Bodo, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that there is no proposal to remove or downgrade the language, reaffirming the government's commitment to preserving and promoting Bodo as an integral part of Assam's cultural heritage
