Many people believe that a stable life means having a good job, a regular salary, marriage and a family. However, some choose a different path to live life on their own terms. Himani Mittal, a 30-year-old woman from Abu Road in Rajasthan, is one such example. Uninterested in the conventional nine-to-five work routine, she has changed her career six times in search of work that suits her interests and lifestyle. Recognising the importance of financial independence at a young age, Himani began teaching Spanish at 21, even while she was still learning the language herself. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when she was 23, she shifted her work entirely online, allowing her to work from home and explore new opportunities.
After completing higher studies in filmmaking, Himani moved to Spain at the age of 25. She lived there for three years, teaching English while travelling to different parts of Europe and meeting people from diverse backgrounds. After returning to India, she decided to continue living according to her own preferences rather than following conventional expectations. She now runs a social media initiative called the “SF Challenge,” which discusses the pressures, uncertainties and life decisions faced by people approaching or entering their thirties. Through her journey, Himani hopes to encourage those considering a career change or looking for a fresh start. Her message is that there is no fixed age to achieve success, get married or establish oneself in life. A video she shared on Instagram describing her experiences has attracted considerable attention.
