The Central Government has constituted a high-powered committee to examine issues concerning the Tungabhadra river basin and the states dependent on its waters. The Ministry of Jal Shakti has issued official orders in this regard. A member of the Central Water Commission (CWC) has been appointed as the committee's Chairman, while officials from the Tungabhadra Board and the CWC will serve as members.
The committee also includes the Engineers-in-Chief of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It has been directed to conduct a comprehensive study covering water-sharing, river basin management, and other key issues affecting the Tungabhadra basin. The Centre has asked the panel to submit its detailed report within six months, which is expected to guide future policy decisions.
