High Court Issues Orders on Police Recruitment

The Telangana High Court has directed the State Police Recruitment Board to submit, within four weeks, a detailed recruitment schedule for nearly 7,400 police vacancies recently approved by the government. The order came while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by the Help the People Charitable Trust, which challenged the delay in filling large-scale vacancies in the police department. During the hearing, the Special Government Pleader informed the court that the recruitment process for 5,000 police posts has already begun and that an official notification has been issued.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the dispute over nearly 400 unfilled posts from the 2022 Telangana Police Constable recruitment on September 8. The petitions challenge the practice of fixing different district-wise cut-off marks for candidates belonging to the same reservation category. The Bench observed that the matter involves complex legal questions relating to the interpretation of Article 371(D). The Supreme Court also stayed further proceedings in the related contempt case pending before the High Court.
