The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai for their work on non-linear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis. The recognition highlights research into important chemical processes that help explain how asymmetry can be created and amplified during organic reactions.

Kagan is known for foundational work on non-linear effects in asymmetric catalysis, while Soai is renowned for his pioneering research on asymmetric autocatalysis. The Soai reaction has become an important example of asymmetric autocatalysis, in which a chiral product can help catalyse its own formation and amplify an initial imbalance.
