Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in UP..

Heavy rains and strong winds have wreaked havoc across Uttar Pradesh, leaving 56 people dead and 46 others injured in rain-related incidents over a 48-hour period. The state recorded 97.6 mm of rainfall between the morning of September 25 and September 27, against the normal 4.5 mm during this period. State Relief Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod said 56 of the state’s 75 districts received excess rainfall. More than 1,020 houses were damaged and 107 animals died. Officials said the death toll could rise as damage assessment continues. Farrukhabad recorded 7,385 per cent excess rainfall, followed by Kannauj at 5,664 per cent, Shahjahanpur at 4,408 per cent, Hamirpur at 4,240 per cent and Mahoba at 4,100 per cent.

Heavy rains have also raised the risk of flooding in several low-lying areas of Odisha. Officials said the Mahanadi river system at Mundali could reach a flow of around eight lakh cusecs by Monday morning. Khurda, Cuttack, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts are among the areas likely to be affected, while the Baitarani, Salandi and Subarnarekha rivers in northern Odisha are already flowing above danger levels. In Uttarakhand, continuous rainfall has led authorities to suspend river rafting on the Ganga in the Muni Ki Reti area of Rishikesh indefinitely. Officials said rafting will resume only after weather conditions improve and the river water level falls to a safe level.
