

Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award. She received the honour from President Droupadi Murmu at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Several other distinguished personalities were also honoured during the civil awards ceremony.
The Government of India has approved a total of 131 Padma awards for 2026, including Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri categories. Harmanpreet Kaur made history by leading India to their first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title at home. Her leadership marked a significant milestone in Indian cricket.
Paralympic gold medallist Praveen Kumar and women’s hockey coach Baldev Singh were also among the Padma Shri recipients. The government recognised their outstanding contributions in sports and coaching at the national level.
