Harish Rao Says NDSA, CWPRS Reports Counter Congress Claims on Kaleshwaram

Former minister and BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader Harish Rao has criticised the Congress government over its handling of the Kaleshwaram project and Telangana’s water resources.

Harish Rao said the affidavit submitted by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) has made it clear that water can be lifted from Kaleshwaram as required. He also cited the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) observations, claiming that no structural problems were found in any block at Annaram and Sundilla and that the concrete quality was found to be satisfactory.

He alleged that the state government was avoiding the use of Kaleshwaram due to political reasons and was allowing available Godavari water to flow downstream instead of utilising it for Telangana farmers. He questioned why the government was focusing on commissions and inquiries instead of ensuring that available water was lifted and supplied to farmers.

Harish Rao further alleged that pumps at Devadula and Nandi were switched on only after pressure from the opposition and were later turned off. He said this resulted in valuable floodwater flowing downstream without being properly utilised.

He also pointed to reservoir storage levels in Telangana and warned that declining water availability could create difficulties for farmers in the coming months. Harish Rao urged the government to take advance measures considering possible future rainfall shortages and climate-related challenges.

He demanded that the government stop what he described as misinformation about Kaleshwaram, switch on the Annaram and Sundilla pump motors, lift Godavari water, fill the reservoirs and ensure water reaches farmers’ fields.
