Former minister and BRS leader Harish Rao has raised concerns over the sharp rise in fine rice prices in Telangana and criticised the state government over the issue. He claimed that fine rice prices have increased by around 25 per cent in the past four months and urged the government and the Civil Supplies Department to take effective steps to control the prices of essential commodities. He also pointed to rising prices of onions, garlic, pulses and cooking oil, saying the increase is adding to the financial burden on ordinary households.
Harish Rao demanded immediate inspections into alleged black marketing, illegal stockpiling, artificial shortages and excessive margins, and called for action against those responsible. He also urged the Centre and Telangana government to ensure that farmers receive remunerative prices while consumers get essential commodities at affordable rates. He called for an immediate review of the rising prices of fine rice and other essential commodities to provide relief to the public.
