Torrential rains have triggered severe flooding across Gujarat's Surat district, causing widespread disruption and damage. Kamrej recorded 403 mm of rainfall, while Palsana received 357 mm, making it one of the highest rainfall events recorded in nearly 200 years. Continuous downpours have caused rivers and streams to overflow, inundating several residential and rural areas.
Floodwaters from surrounding rural regions have brought daily life to a standstill. At least six people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, while authorities have evacuated nearly 2,000 residents to safer locations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the next 72 hours.
