The Jawahar Nagar dumping yard in Medchal district, where Hyderabad’s waste is being dumped, has become a major environmental concern. Over the past 15 years, massive amounts of garbage have accumulated, turning the site into a huge waste mound. Locals have raised concerns over the lack of proper scientific waste disposal methods. Nearly 10,000 metric tonnes of waste from GHMC and nearby municipalities are being transported to the yard every day.
The government is trying to reduce pressure on the Jawahar Nagar dumping yard by setting up new waste management facilities in other areas using modern technology. However, local residents are opposing the establishment of new dumping yards due to fears of pollution. Officials believe that advanced waste-processing models like the one developed in Dundigal could help solve the issue. The government has also directed authorities to identify new locations for a permanent solution to Hyderabad’s waste management problem.
