The government has released a draft Cyber Security Rules framework for smart and connected vehicles to improve safety and prevent hacking, malware, and cyberattacks. The proposal aims to strengthen digital protection in modern automobiles through strict security standards.
As part of the draft, automakers may be required to implement a Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) and ensure secure over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The rules will be introduced in a phased manner, with full implementation planned for all OTA-enabled vehicles by 2029. Stakeholders can submit suggestions and objections until July 17.
