

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla called upon every citizen to contribute to the making of a developed, healthy and self-reliant India. He was speaking at the 80th Independence Day celebrations held at Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad on August 15, 2026. After receiving the police guard of honour, the Governor unfurled the national flag and conveyed his Independence Day greetings to the people of Telangana and the country.
The Governor remembered the sacrifices of freedom fighters and national leaders, stating that India achieved independence because of their courage, sacrifice and patriotism. He said unity in diversity remains one of the country’s greatest strengths and noted that India is moving rapidly towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy. He urged citizens to draw inspiration from the freedom movement and actively contribute to the Viksit Bharat vision.

Shukla described Telangana as an important growth engine in India’s development journey. He said Hyderabad has established itself as a major growth centre and highlighted the state’s progress in irrigation and agriculture along with its expansion in information technology, artificial intelligence, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. He said Telangana has the potential to emerge as a global centre for innovation, technology and development.
The Governor also stressed that economic and technological progress must go hand in hand with public health and youth empowerment. He said expanding initiatives such as TB Mukt Bharat and Nasha Mukt Bharat into wider public movements in Telangana would be among his key priorities. He urged citizens, institutions and young people to actively participate in efforts to eliminate tuberculosis and protect youth from drug abuse.
Shukla also paid tribute to the armed forces and security personnel serving along the nation’s borders. He said their vigilance, courage and sacrifices allow the country to move forward confidently on the path of development. He called upon everyone to work collectively towards building a prosperous, healthy and self-reliant Telangana while contributing to the Viksit Bharat goal.
