Andhra Pradesh Governor and President of the TB Association of Andhra Pradesh, S. Abdul Nazeer, launched the 77th TB Seal Sale Campaign at a programme held at the Durbar Hall of Lok Bhavan in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that although the causative organism of tuberculosis was discovered by Sir Robert Koch 144 years ago and significant progress has been made in controlling the disease, TB continues to remain a major killer.
Governor Abdul Nazeer said TB is not merely a medical challenge but also a social and economic issue affecting individuals, families and communities. He stressed that the fight against TB must go beyond treatment and include awareness, early diagnosis, prevention, nutrition, social support and community participation. He said the Centre’s TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan follows a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to eliminate TB from India ahead of the UN’s 2030 SDG target. He appealed to citizens, educational institutions, industries, corporate houses, voluntary organisations and philanthropists to support the TB Seal Sale Campaign generously.
