Government Takes Key Decision on Ration Cards

Telangana is set to introduce a smart upgrade to its food security system, with the distribution of smart ration cards to 3.43 crore beneficiaries scheduled to begin on August 15. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally launch the programme at a state level event in Sangareddy, while simultaneous distribution programmes will be held at all 33 district headquarters. Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the initiative is aimed at making the public distribution system more transparent, efficient and beneficiary friendly.

The minister said Telangana currently provides food security to 3.43 crore people through more than 1.06 crore food security cards, with each eligible beneficiary receiving six kilograms of fine rice free every month. Since January 26, 2025, the government has issued 16.32 lakh new food security cards covering over 61 lakh beneficiaries. Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to complete all arrangements for the August 15 programmes and ensure that beneficiaries face no inconvenience during card distribution.
