The Central Government has taken a precautionary measure to protect the health of children below four years of age. It has imposed restrictions on the manufacture, sale and distribution of fixed-dose combination medicines containing chlorpheniramine maleate and phenylephrine hydrochloride for this age group.
The government has also directed manufacturers to include a clear warning in the prescribing information stating that these medicines should not be used for children under four. The decision was taken based on recommendations from an expert committee and the Drugs Technical Advisory Board.
