Government Prepares for Pragada Kotayya's Birth Anniversary Celebrations

The Andhra Pradesh Government is preparing to officially celebrate the 110th birth anniversary of Pragada Kotayya, a renowned freedom fighter, handloom leader, and social reformer, on July 26. Born on July 26, 1915, in Nidubrolu of Guntur district, Kotayya dedicated his life to the welfare of handloom weavers and farmers. He played a vital role in strengthening the cooperative movement and served as the General Secretary of the All India Handloom Weavers Congress while also publishing the Chenetha weekly.

Pragada Kotayya served three terms as an MLA, one term as an MLC, and was also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He was instrumental in establishing the Chirala Cooperative Spinning Mill and held several leadership positions in national cooperative organisations. Honoured with the title 'Prajabandhu', his contributions continue to inspire generations. The state government has issued orders to observe his birth anniversary as a state celebration.
