The state government has introduced changes to the farmer verification process and the short message service (SMS) system for distributing subsidised seeds through the D-Krishi app. Orders to this effect were issued on Thursday. The government had introduced a standard operating procedure in 2021–22 for distributing subsidised seeds to farmers at the village level. The present government revised the procedure last year to ensure that the benefits reach genuine farmers. The latest amendments aim to strengthen the verification process and improve transparency in the distribution of subsidised seeds.
According to the new orders, farmers must be verified through the D-Krishi app during seed distribution and payment. Verification can be completed using biometric authentication, facial recognition or a one-time password (OTP) sent to the farmer’s Aadhaar-linked mobile number. The person in charge of the Rythu Seva Kendra will verify the farmer through the app, after which the registration ID will be sent to the farmer’s mobile phone. The government has clarified that the same verification procedure must be followed for both seed distribution and payment, helping ensure that subsidies reach eligible farmers.
