The Civil Supplies Department has extended the deadline for the distribution of ration rice through the Public Distribution System to September 5. In view of the impact of El Niño conditions, the government had earlier decided to distribute the ration quota for August, September and October in a single instalment by August 31. However, distributing three months’ quota at once led to heavy crowds at ration shops. In addition, several beneficiaries travelled to their native places during the Rakhi Purnima holidays and could not collect their ration within the original deadline.
To ensure that no eligible beneficiary misses out, the Civil Supplies Department has extended the distribution period by another five days. Officials said ration rice distribution will continue as usual at all ration shops until the evening of September 5. Eligible cardholders who are yet to collect their three-month quota have been advised to visit their nearest ration shop before the extended deadline and make use of the opportunity.
